Second consultation on revised guidelines for the allocation of transport licenses 2026-2030

On November 19, 2025, the Technical, Environmental, and Business Committee decided to submit revised Guidelines for the Allocation of Transport Licenses 2026-2030 for a second round of consultation. The consultation deadline is set for December 22, 2025.

The guidelines are linked to regulations on passenger transport in Longyearbyen and conditions for granting licenses for passenger transport for remuneration.

The aim of the consultation round is to create a solid knowledge base for these guidelines and ensure that they are well anchored in the local community. With this consultation, we want to identify the challenges that exist today and strengthen Longyearbyen's environmental profile.

How can you provide input?

Anyone interested can submit their opinions and comments. This applies to residents, businesses, organizations, and others. All input will be evaluated and included in the overall basis for new guidelines.

Timetable and further process

The consultation period is short because the guidelines must be assessed and revised before they are presented for political consideration by the local council on February 18, 2026.

Existing licenses for route buses and taxis have been extended and are valid until June 30, 2026. Separate information about this will be provided shortly.
