Public Comment Period: Mental Health Prevention Plan for Longyearbyen 2026–2029

The Longyearbyen Local Council is now submitting the “Preventive Plan for Mental Health in Longyearbyen 2026–2029” for public comment.

This plan was developed based on a decision by the local council on November 19, 2025 (Case 2024/251), and aims to strengthen preventive efforts in the areas of mental health and quality of life within the local community. The work has been carried out by an interdisciplinary reference group and adapted to Svalbard’s framework, where the Longyearbyen local council is responsible for prevention, coordination, and community development.

The plan emphasizes early intervention, good cooperation among local stakeholders, and a clear division of roles. It forms the basis for a subsequent action plan with concrete measures.

We invite all consultation bodies and other interested parties to provide input, particularly regarding:

  • organization and division of roles
  • priority focus areas for the period 2026–2029
  • measures and implementation
  • indicators for monitoring and reporting

Consultation deadline: May 5, 2026
