Announcement- Proposal for a New Action Plan on Drug Policy
The Longyearbyen Local Council is submitting a proposal for a new substance abuse policy action plan for the period 2026–2028 for public comment, and invites residents, organizations and associations, the business community, public agencies, and other interested parties to provide input.
The Substance Abuse Policy Action Plan is intended to serve as a management tool for the Longyearbyen Local Government’s work on substance abuse prevention and substance abuse-related challenges during the planning period. The proposed plan builds on the current Substance Abuse Policy Action Plan for 2020–2024 and continues the focus on prevention, early intervention, and interagency collaboration.
Adapted to Local Conditions
The plan is based on local challenges and conditions in Longyearbyen, including high availability of alcohol, limited treatment services, and high population turnover.
Emphasis is placed on specific measures and how these will be followed up during the plan period. It is proposed that follow-up and reporting be assigned to the Department of Child and Youth Services and Culture, with annual reporting to the Local Community, Child and Youth Services, and Culture Committee.
Seeking Input
Before the matter is submitted for final political consideration, the Longyearbyen Local Council seeks input on the draft plan. Consultation deadline
