Submit your nominations for the Typhus Statue and cultural scholarship

The deadline is March 31, and we need good candidates.

Tyfus is an old Svalbard term for anything that is bad. Historically, tyfus originally referred to anything from poorly paid piecework to sour beer.

Recipients of the Typhus Statue must have had a positive influence on the environment in Longyearbyen. Whether in or outside their position, candidates must have demonstrated a willingness and ability to make "typhus" a little less "typhus."

The Longyearbyen local council also awards a culture scholarship of NOK 15,000 to young people between the ages of 13 and 20. The culture scholarship is intended to encourage talented young performers and/or creators to continue with their activities.

This is also a good way for the local community to recognize young people who have shown commitment and talent. The cultural scholarship is awarded to an individual or a group.

The cultural scholarship should be associated with diversity. Both athletes and cultural practitioners are eligible to receive it. Key words include originality, creativity, and quality. Everyone is encouraged to submit nominations for worthy candidates who deserve the youth cultural scholarship.

The deadline for nominations is March 31, 2025.

The Typhus Statue and the Culture Scholarship will be awarded during the festive performance on May 17.
