Work on a new land use plan is underway

The Longyearbyen local government is currently drawing up a plan program for a new land use plan.

The program will soon be sent out for consultation, which will mark the formal start of the planning process. We have now begun work on a new land use plan. This is important work that will set the course for the future development, use, and management of our areas.

Where are we now?

Right now, we are working on a planning program. The planning program will describe the framework for the land use planning work – what will be investigated, how the process will be carried out, and how participation will be ensured.

When the planning program is complete, it will be sent out for consultation. This will give residents, organizations, businesses, and other interested parties the opportunity to provide input. The consultation marks the formal start of the land use planning work.
