Announcement of available licenses
The Longyearbyen Local Council is responsible for issuing transport permits in Longyearbyen.
The licenses are means-tested, which means that the number of licenses is limited and subject to political control.
The application deadline is April 13, 2026.
From July 1, 2026, the following licenses will be available:
1 route license for airport shuttle buses
6 taxi licenses
If there are more applicants than the number of licenses to be awarded, the local council may take the following factors into consideration:
The applicant's experience and expertise with the service, passenger safety, environmental profile, and satisfactory financial capacity.
How to apply:
Applications must be submitted electronically via our form portal.
The following must be attached to the application
- a police certificate (not older than 3 months)
- driver's license
