Are you new to Longyearbyen? Join us for an informtion session
The Longyearbyen Local Council (LL) invites new residents to informational meetings at Kulturhuset.
The goal is to make the transition to life in the Arctic a little easier—whether you’re coming here for the first time or just need a refresher.
Information sessions
Here you’ll get an introduction to the local community, a useful overview of services—and the chance to ask questions.
- Thursday, May 7 at 6:00 PM
- Tuesday, September 30 at 6:00 PM
The meetings will be held at Kulturhuset.
During the meeting, LL will provide information about our services in town, and there will also be information on everything from various public agencies to safety in the field. The meeting will last approximately one hour and will be streamed. A recording of the stream will be published on lokalstyre.no with English subtitles.
The Longyearbyen Local Council hopes many will be able to attend the information meetings—and welcomes all new residents to Longyearbyen.
Information for newcomers
To make the transition to everyday life in Svalbard as easy as possible, useful and practical information has now been compiled on the website New to Longyearbyen, which you can find via this link.
As a resident of Longyearbyen, you can also access a wealth of information through a dedicated app.
This can be downloaded from both the App Store and Google Play (search for “Inhabitant Longyearbyen”) or by using the QR code further down the page.
Not only does the app feature an updated calendar of events, but you’ll also receive relevant news from LL, the Governor, flight schedules, avalanche warnings, and everything you need to know whether you’re planning to move to Longyearbyen or have already moved there.
It’s a good idea to enable notifications when you download the app, as you’ll receive useful information as a resident.
