Renovation of Svalbardhallen is now underway
Work on upgrading Svalbardhallen is now entering its first phase. The tender documents have been finalized, and the project has been put out to bid so that contractors can submit bids for the work.
If everything goes according to plan, construction work will begin on July 1, 2026, inside the sports hall itself. This will include, among other things:
- fireproof painting of steel structures
- sanding, new marking, and refinishing of the floor
- upgrades to plumbing and electrical systems
Renovation work in Phase 1 is scheduled for completion in mid-October 2026. During this period, the sports hall itself will be closed, but other parts of the building will remain open as usual.
This year’s work is an important part of the preparations for the next construction phase in 2027. At that time, the swimming pool and adjacent areas will be renovated, which will result in the closure of the pool area. The rest of the building will remain available for activities and use.
To provide more information about the project, the Longyearbyen Local Council invites you to an informational meeting at Kulturhuset on August 25.
More information about the time and agenda will follow.
We look forward to getting started on the work and to being able to offer even better facilities for residents in the years to come.
