Flushing the Drinking Water System

The Longyearbyen Local Council will carry out a scheduled flushing of the entire drinking water system in the summer/fall of 2026. This work is part of the routine maintenance of the water supply system.

The first phase of the flushing work will take place in Gruvedalen. The work will be carried out at night during week 32.

During and immediately after flushing, there may be temporary changes in water pressure and discoloration of the water.

We therefore recommend that customers:

• Unscrew and clean the strainer on the kitchen faucet and let the water run until it runs clear.

• Avoid doing laundry while the flushing is in progress.

• Please note that filters in various household appliances are not well-suited to handling the buildup of precipitated substances such as manganese.
