Get your outdoor spaces ready for more activity

The Longyearbyen Local Council has recently taken several steps to improve the outdoor areas in Longyearbyen. Conditions are now in place for more play and activity—whether by bike, on the gravel track, or, in time, on ice skates.

This summer, the Longyearbyen Local Council carried out maintenance and upgrades on several of our outdoor facilities.

The bike trail has received necessary maintenance and upgrades. The Longyearbyen Local Council was assisted by Sondre Goska (pictured), who has extensive experience building bike trails. The course, with its jumps and turns, is a great option for kids and teens who love speed and challenges, and now it’s even more exciting. All you have to do is grab your bike and try out the new jumps!

Maintenance has also been carried out on the gravel field. A solid, even surface provides better conditions for both play and organized activities. Stones have been cleared away, and the field is now ready for this fall’s ball games.

Winter activities have also been factored into the planning. The skating rink has been leveled to provide a better, more even surface when the cold weather arrives and the ice is laid. The goal is to ensure better conditions for skating throughout the winter.

Get Out and Enjoy the Local Area

Longyearbyen offers many opportunities for outdoor activities, and we want our outdoor areas to be places where people can meet, play, exercise, and have fun.

It’s still warm and nice outside, so grab your bike, a ball, or just a good pair of shoes, and make the most of our outdoor spaces!
