Educational and Psychological Services (PPT)
The PP service assists kindergartens and schools in ensuring that children and pupils receive inclusive, equal, and adapted educational provision.
Hva gjør PP-tjenesten?
What do we do?
- PPT works at both the system and individual levels. At the system level, the PP service assists kindergartens and schools with competence and organizational development.
- At the individual level, PPT prepares expert assessments of children's and students' special needs for special educational assistance in kindergarten and individually adapted education in school. This is stated in the Kindergarten Act § 33 and the Education Act § 11-13, with the restrictions that apply in Svalbard.
Limited right to special educational assistance and individually adapted education in Longyearbyen.
Kindergarten
From August 1, 2022, Longyearbyen will have its own regulations for the Kindergarten Act. The regulations for kindergarten activities in Longyearbyen define which parts of the Kindergarten Act apply in Longyearbyen, and we would like to draw particular attention to the fact that Section 31 of the Kindergarten Act, which deals with the right to special educational assistance, does not apply in Longyearbyen for children starting after September 1, 2022. Individual assessments may be made that lead to exceptions to this rule.
School
Only pupils who need minor or moderate adjustments to their education are entitled to individually adapted education in Longyearbyen, cf. Regulations on primary and secondary education in Longyearbyen.

Who can refer to PPT?
Guardians and children over the age of 15 can refer to PPT. We recommend that this be done in collaboration with the kindergarten/school.
It is usually the kindergarten or school that sends the referral to the PP service. Other professional bodies can also refer. Parents must consent to the referral, and the child or student must be consulted.
