Now we're going to celebrate the return of the sun

We celebrate the sun for a whole week—with sun buns and parties.

The return of the sun is fast approaching, and with it this year's sun festival week.

We will be celebrating the sun for over a week, starting on Thursday, March 6, with the premiere of Solfestrevyen External link.! 

The program is packed, with something happening every day from Thursday, March 6, to Saturday, March 15.

On Saturday, March 8, the whole town will gather on the old hospital steps at Skjæringa—sunshine or no sunshine.

We have a wonderful time ahead of us!

March 6:

March 6-8 at 7:30 p.m.: In keeping with tradition, Spitsbergen Revylag External link.will present a revue External link., looking back on the past year with a slightly tongue-in-cheek perspective. March
6: Olaf Storø will demonstrate his printing technique on the large hand press External link. in the "Ligg unna" exhibition at Nordover. You can learn more about the artist's creative process and his work in the world's northernmost lithography workshop.

March 7: March
7 at 11:00 a.m.: First Friday Coffee Club, Solfest special at Artica.

March 8: March
8 at 12:00 p.m.: The traditional celebration of the return of the sun. The whole town gathers on the steps of the old hospital and cheers for the sun! We hope for clear weather! March
8 at 12:00 p.m.: Sun Festival waffles in Svalbard Church.
March 8 at 2:00 p.m.: Take a chance on the alpine slope. The traditional competition with various colorful and exciting vehicles. Come and see who takes home the prizes for best vehicle, fastest time, and biggest belly flop. March
8 at 5:30 p.m. at the Svalbard Museum: Women's Day celebration.

March 9: March
9 at 12:00 p.m. at Hiorthamn: Sun Festival Service Svalbard Church holds a service at Hiorthamn, where the sun is already back, hopefully! March
9 at 10:00 a.m.: Sun Festival Workshop at Artica: Make and paint the birds of Svalbard: Sun Festival Workshop at Artica for children/families.
March 9 at 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Café del Sol at the folk high school. Proceeds go
to the school's collaborative project, YPM (Youth Peace Makers) Tanzania. March 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the cultural center: Film screening of First Light, the Sun Festival film. Organizer: Longyearbyen Local Council/Bluehourlabs.

March 10: March
10 at 7:30 p.m.: Solfest quiz at Tio Monchos.

March 11: March
11 at 6:00 p.m. Sun Festival Café at the cultural center. We gather and sing songs from Svalbard. The cultural school, Blandakoret, and Kullstrupene contribute.

March 13: March
13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Culture House: Lecture, Trine Hamran & Bård Vormdal.

March 13 at 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the youth club: DJ workshop with Farbror. Maximum capacity is 20. From 7th grade and up to 3rd year of high school.

March 14: March
14 at 8:00 p.m. at Kulturhuset: Concert, Casino Steel and Petter Wavold External link., and their hard-hitting rock band will be throwing a party at Kulturhuset. Get ready for high-energy dancing and loud guitar riffs!

March 14 at 9:30-11:00 p.m.: Concert at the youth club with Farbror for seniors in 8th grade and up to 12th grade.

March 15: March
15 at 11:30 a.m. in the square in the pedestrian zone: Daniel Belges Sol-Mil External link.: He has climbed Kebnekajse, cycled Vätternrundan, and most recently run the Helsingborg Marathon. Now, in collaboration with Svalbard Vibe, Daniel Belge is getting his own race in the Arctic wilderness!

DOUBLE CONCERT + NIGHT CLUB!: MOVITS! with their unique jazz-inspired hip hop sound take the stage for the second time in Svalbard! With heavy bass, lots of brass and sharp lyrics, it will be a powerful cultural experience!

10:00 p.m. STUZZI
STUZZI is the band that hasn't stopped playing live since they were formed in the fall of 2022! With their 4th EP (2025), they are wrapping up a sold-out Taking Over Scandinavia Tour! Their samba, salsa, and electronic sound filled with brass, drums, congas, and energetic guitar solos promises an evening of high energy!

Farbror returns to Svalbard for the third time! After his debut at The Game Room, he has played at Nordstjernen at sea at 80 degrees North, Longyearbyen Pride Parade and Kulturhuset! Farbror will fill the evening with his unique disco/electronica/house sound mixed with his own music!
