Longyearbyen Culture School
The Longyearbyen Culture School offers a wide range of courses and is an active part of Longyearbyen's rich cultural life.
We offer group and individual lessons in singing, various musical disciplines, art, cultural activities, music immersion, and more. Further information about the various subjects can be found under registration.
- Individual singing from 1st grade.
- Piano and drums from 3rd grade.
- Trumpet, saxophone, guitar, bass, cello, and violin from 5th grade.
- Culture carousel 1st and 2nd grade.
- Art grades 1-2 and 3-4.
- Band, 7th grade.
- Music specialization 7th grade-VGS.
If resources are available and students have mastered an instrument from, for example, other cultural schools, we can make exceptions to our age rule at Longyearbyen Cultural School. This is decided by the individual teacher in each case.
We accept applicants on a rolling basis, and if some end up with two individual teachers, it is due to the different teaching resources available. Those who already attend must re-register for next year. Just send an email or call if you have any questions. All the subjects we offer are dependent on the teaching resources available in the fall, but we strive not to have a waiting list. Everyone is welcome!

Practical information
Teaching
A student place means one lesson once a week throughout the cultural school year for 37 weeks.
The teaching year may be condensed in connection with extra rehearsals for performances and intensive rehearsal periods in connection with larger projects. In such cases, time off will be granted, often in connection with the various holidays throughout the school year.
Solo lessons are 20 minutes per week.
Group lessons are 30–60 minutes per week.

Prices 2025
Rates 2025:
Fee for solo lessons NOK 1999 per semester Fee
for group lessons NOK 1890 per semester
Instrument rental NOK 395 per semester
A 30% sibling discount is available.
Rates and fees are adjusted in January each year by the Longyearbyen local council.
