Fire and rescue

Longyearbyen Fire and Rescue consists of four full-time positions, with the remainder being part-time personnel.

The fire station is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

110 Emergency Call Center

The fire and rescue service has a 110 emergency call center in Tromsø, which is staffed around the clock. A large part of Longyearbyen's buildings and housing stock are now connected to the 110 emergency call center.

To ensure safety in the local community, we ask that certain activities are reported to the Fire and Rescue Service in advance. This helps us maintain an overview and enables us to respond quickly and appropriately should an incident occur.

Which activities should be reported?

  • Lighting bonfires/fire pits at the designated fire site in the sea area
  • Overnight stays in schools, kindergartens, and other public buildings
  • Events involving open fire, candles, or other flammable equipment
  • Events, concerts, or similar activities held outside pre-approved event venues
  • Temporary changes in the use of buildings or premises
  • Other activities that may affect fire safety

If you are unsure whether your activity should be reported, we recommend that you contact us.

Why is it important to report activities?

By notifying us in advance, we can:

  • Assess the need for preventive measures
  • Provide advice on safe implementation
  • Maintain situational awareness in case of emergency responses, helping to avoid unnecessary alarms
  • Ensure a fast and correct response if an incident occurs

How do you report an activity?

Notifications must be sent to the Fire and Rescue Service well in advance of the activity. Please include:

  • The type of activity planned
  • Time and duration
  • Exact location
  • Contact person and telephone number

Notifications should be sent by email to: LBR@lokalstyre.no

Important to remember

Submitting a notification does not replace the responsibility to comply with current regulations. The organizer of the activity is responsible for ensuring that all necessary safety measures are in place.
