Benth Owesen from Oppdal works with both glass and ceramics. Gallery Svalbard has a large selection of the artist's glass works, jewellery and ceramics.

Recently Owesen began to work more and more with a technique called glass fusing, a technique that is around 3000 - 4000 years old and comes from ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. The pre-cut model is melted into a flat shape at 800 degrees, cooled and then heated again at 650-750 degrees above a form, which the glass bent. Owesen is working in his workshop in Oppdal, where he has some fournaces for the different techniques of both glass and ceramics. The works are for sale across the country.

The frozen world has inspired Owesen for a long time and he has had exhibitions inside and outside the ice cave Speilsalen Trollheimen. The winter formations inspires both colours, decoration and shape. The first visit to Svalbard was in February and July 1999. Here Owesen was captivated by the intense light of February and by the formations of ice caves around Longyearbyen. These trips resulted in an exhibition at Gallery Svalbard the same year. It is not difficult to see how the artist has used impressions from ice caves and the light of February in both ceramics, jewellery and glass dish for sale here at the gallery.
